Permits & Forms

GEC utilizes an Online Permit Application. This new feature will allow contractors and homeowners to submit for new permits online any time day or night.

The portal is for electronic submission of your building permit application and related documents. You will need to gather the following, as needed, for your specific permit:
Parcel number
Zoning permit number
Sanitary permit number
Electronic copy of all plans
Contractor info including license # and expiration date

***If you are unsure if additional documents are needed for your specific project, or have questions about the documents listed above, it is best to contact the Building Inspector PRIOR to submitting your application to prevent the application from being denied.***

Follow these steps for electronic submission of your building permit application:
Click on this link to start your application: https://gec.soliant.cloud/fmi/webd/GEC_BuildingPermitApplication

Upload plans and other required documentation as part of this process

"Submit" your application for review – you will receive an email once submitted

Once your application is submitted, the following will happen:
Inspector will review and request more information or accept for further processing

Once accepted, Inspector will complete detailed review, follow-up with remaining questions with the goal of approving

Once approved, you will be notified your permit is ready and any remaining payment needed

As a reminder, no work should begin until you have an approved permit.

Fireworks Permit

Sheriff Chip Meister would like to remind citizens of which fireworks are legal and which are illegal. Fireworks that are legal without a permit are sparklers not exceeding 36 inches in length, stationary cones and fountains, toy snakes, smoke bombs, caps, noisemakers, confetti poppers with less than ¼ grain of explosive mixture, and novelty devices that spin or move on the ground. These are the only kind of fireworks that a person may use or possess without a permit. Possessing or using any other fireworks, including firecrackers, roman candles, bottle rockets and mortars, without a valid permit is illegal.

A permit may be issued by a mayor, village president or town chair or any person designated by the mayor, village president, or town chairperson. The permit is only valid in the city, village, or town of the official that issued it and must specify a specific location. It is only valid on the date specified of the permitted use and cannot specify a range of dates. A permit cannot be issued to a minor.

A person who possesses or uses fireworks without a valid permit, or who sells to a person who does not have a valid permit, is subject to a forfeiture of up to $1000.00 per violation. Each firework illegally possessed, used or sold may be a separate violation. In addition, a parent or guardian who allows a minor to possess or use fireworks is subject to a forfeiture of up to $1000.00 per violation.

Production of future forest crops through sound forest management is one of the fundamental components of Managed Forest Law (MFL) and Forest Crop Law (FCL). Likewise, most owners of MFL and FCL lands will be required to harvest trees as part of their forest management plan. The forester that prepared the forest management plan when the property was enrolled in MFL included these mandatory timber harvests, also called mandatory practices, to ensure the health and productivity of the forest consistent with the landowner’s objectives for the land.

This below link will direct you to the Department of Natural Resources. It contains information useful for anyone involved in the process of harvesting timber on MFL and FCL lands including landowners, consulting foresters, logging contractors, and other forestry professionals.

The entire process can take anywhere from three months to three years or longer to complete. Some steps may run concurrently, but each situation is unique and may take more or less time.

In addition to the DNR website, there is also a link to the Sauk County Timber Notification Form.

Burning permits are required by the Wisconsin DNR in many parts of the state to conduct legal and responsible burning in the outdoors. Burning permits are free and easy to obtain. They encourage the public to burn safely and are proven to be effective in protecting lives, property and natural resources from the damages of wildfires.

The owner of a buildable lot must contact the clerk of the Sanitary District to request a tap-in application to connect to the sewer system prior to beginning building activity. The application contains information needed by your contractor for the lateral hook-up and a permit will be issued approving the connection.

The current fee to connect to the sewer system is $3,250.00 which includes an inspection by a licensed engineer.
